Leila de Lima should’ve realized this during her days as Department of Justice (DOJ) secretary, when she was he one making life difficult for alleged criminals in government.
“Hindi naman bago ang mga ito. Bumabalik lang lahat sa kanya,” current DOJ Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II said of De Lima.
Earlier, Aguirre ordered the conduct of preliminary investigation on the drug charges against filed against her in connection with the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) drug trade. Before that, he issued an immigration lookout bulletin order (LBO) against Senator De Lima.
Aguirre said that these are just normal procedures.
“I keep on saying that I am not using my office or abusing my power to persecute her,” he said of De Lima, who is a Liberal Party (LP) member.
Under her watch, the DOJ conducted investigations on the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) anomaly and Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) cases against incumbent lawmakers and forwarded its findings to the Ombudsman.
“She know this very well. In 2014, she said that selective justice was not a valid defense and that the DOJ has concurrent power with the Ombudsman. Now that it’s happening to her, why is she questioning the DOJ’s concurrent power?” Aguirre asked. [source]
