Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II is taking his time in building up the cases against Senator Leila de Lima because he expects an epic courtroom showdown to happen once the charges have been filed against her.
Facing reporters at the Senate after the Department of Justice’s budget presentation, Aguirre was asked if he believes the allegation that De Lima received money from drug lords was enough for a case to be filed against her.
In response, the justice secretary said: “Alam niyo, matagal na akong nakikipaglaban sa malalaking kaso eh. Pagdating sa kaso tulad niyang kay Sen. Leila de Lima, kakasuhan mo eh siguradong napakagaling ng mga lawyers niyan. Palagay ko labanan ng siglo ito pag nagkataon.”
Aguirre advised the media to be patient as to when the cases will be filed against De Lima since he wanted the charges to be based on solid evidence.
“Hindi ako ‘yung basta-basta nagfa-file ng kaso. Gusto ko pag ako nag-file ng kaso, talagang matibay,” he said. [source]
