Senate President Koko Pimentel paid tribute to the late Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago by calling her as the youth’s “moral compass” and “best president the country never had.”
“Today, the Filipino nation lost a moral giant in the fight against corruption, and an intellectual force and brilliant legal mind in Philippine politics,” said Pimentel in a statement.
“While she did not always win her political battles, she always stood on the side of what was moral, what was legal, what was constitutional, and ultimately what was good for the Filipino people,” Pimentel added.
Pimentel, a bar topnotcher, said he first encountered Santiago’s wit and fiery rhetoric in his Constitutional Law class.
In the Senate, Pimentel said Santiago electrified the session hall with her “crackling and slashing wit that won her a legion of followers and admirers.” [source]
